Is 2023 the best year for video games?
2023 is coming to an end, and it’s been a very exciting year when it comes to gaming. With plenty of new video games released, plus the surprising announcement of many new gaming consoles like the PS Portal. More than 100 major video game releases were held in 2023, ranging from horror to racing to classic Mario entries, the genres have been varied! And with so many brilliant video games available, how do you decide which ones are the best?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
First up on our list is The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, released back on May 12th, 2023. This action-adventure game stars Link and Zelda, who set out to explore a cavern under Hyrule Castle where a poisonous substance has been seeping out causing people to fall ill.
The Nintendo Switch platform game has won 3 awards in 2023, Best Action-Adventure Game, Nintendo Game Of The Year and Most Wanted Award.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is next up on our best video games of 2023. Releasing on April 28th, 2023, this action-adventure game stars Jedi Knight Cal Kestis who goes on a journey to fight the Empire whilst searching for a place to hide from them.
The game was nominated for 8 awards however won none. Some of these nominations included Best Storytelling, PlayStation Game Of The Year and Ultimate Game Of The Year. Make sure to check out Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Baldur's Gate 3.
On August 3rd, 2023, the role-playing video game Baldur’s Gate 3 was released, winning 12 awards altogether in 2023, this video game could be considered the best of 2023. Some of the many awards Baldur’s Gate 3 won include Best Visual Design, PC Game Of The Year and Ultimate Game Of The Year.
The PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo platform game is set on a giant flying ship, where the player wakes up. They must try to escape whilst avoiding the attacking Githyanki warriors.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
A couple of months ago, on October 20th, 2023, the side-scrolling 2d game Super Mario Bros. Wonder was released. In the game, Mario and his friends attempt to stop Bowser who has used the magical Wonder Flower to transform himself into a castle to take over Flower Kingdom.
The game, which is only available on Nintendo Switch, has won 1 award which is Best Family Game.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Also released on October 20th, 2023, was Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The PS5 Action-adventure game follows Miles Morales and Peter, who navigate their next steps as they combat several new threats, like when New York City is transformed into a hunting ground for super-powered individuals.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has won 1 award, which was surprising for most fans. This award was for Best Original Song In A Video Game.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Resident Evil 4 Remake was a widely anticipated game, and when it was released on March 24th, 2023, the survival horror game won the PlayStation Game Of The Year Award. The PlayStation and Xbox game sees players take control of Leon S Kennedy, who must save the daughter of the USA’s president from the mysterious Los Illuminados Cult.
Hogwarts Legacy
After a lot of sequels, prequels and remastered video games, finally we are onto one of our first favourite original games. Hogwarts Legacy was another widely anticipated game to release in 2023, and the wait was certainly worth it! The action, role-playing game which came out on February 10th, 2023, got 2 nominations for the Most Anticipated Game and Most Wanted Award. In the PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo platform game gamers play as a student at Hogwarts, embarking on dangerous journeys to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.
ALAN WAKE 2
If you are looking for a new horror game to play, Alan Wake 2 is exactly what you need. Releasing just before Halloween on October 27th 2023, the PS5 survival horror game is a sequel to the original, following the best-selling novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension.
Gaining huge anticipation and popularity for a sequel, the game won 4 awards. These include Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Critics Choice Award and Best Art Direction.

PIKMIN 4
Taking a lighter approach, Pikmin 4 was also a popular game to enter 2023. Released on July 23rd, 2023, on the Nintendo Switch only, real-time strategy video game focuses on the aftermath of a plane crash onto a mysterious planet. The player discovers Pikmin and a strange dog-like creature whilst trying to return home, collecting all the parts he needs for the ship.
The game won 1 award for Best Sim/Strategy.
Diablo 4
And finally, on June 5th, 2023, the action, dungeon crawling game Diablo 4 was released. In the Xbox and PlayStation game, a group of adventurers break into a tomb, accidentally releasing Lilith the daughter of Hatred, therefore setting off a slaying gorefest that is the Diablo Universe.
With such an exciting storyline, it's no surprise the game got 6 nominations, some of these including Best Multiplayer Game and PC Game Of The Year.
