Xbox Live and PS Plus Free Games for July 2021

July is here and so are the free games for Xbox Live Gold members and PS Plus games. Everyone loves a free game, and when multiple games are being given out for those who subscribe to the appropriate services, you can’t ignore. They are free after all.

But it is really exciting when popular and high-quality games are being put on offer. And once again, PS Plus this month does not disappoint. Allowing users to get three games are great for a number of different players whether on PS4 or PS5. Xbox Live Gold’s free games for July however are a bit disappointing. We’ve seen this over the last few months, offering free games that are barely known to players.

And we are going to cover all these games right now, starting with PS Plus games for July.

A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5)

We kick off this month's PS Plus free games with the PS5 exclusive, A Plague Tale: Innocence. The action-adventure survival horror game that has been updated for PS5 with 4K and 60FPS. Performance has been taken to a new level with faster loading and far more amazing visuals.

Originally releasing in May 2019, this tale follows the character Amicia and her young brother Yugo in a world ridden by a deadly plague and horde of unstoppable rats. Utilising stealth to avoid enemies who seek to harm you and fending off the horde of rats using different methods.

Playing from the third person perspective, this game is less reliant on combat and more on stealth. Along with a few puzzles that focus on your survival.

Normally valued at around £45 on the PlayStation Store, but will be available for PS5 users until the end of this month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (PS4)

Next up is the fourth entry into the very popular Black Ops series from highly rated franchise: Call of Duty. A relatively recent triple A rated game that focuses around futuristic multiplayer and enjoy gameplay with your friends.

Releasing in 2018, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set many years into the future, and is one of the first Black Ops games that did not release with a campaign mode. With Treyarch instead deciding to go down the Battle Royale route (Call of Duty: Warzone, which is now free).

This game took a complete focus into online multiplayer. With players heading into a slightly reworked online PVP mode. Now focusing on more tactical and teamwork approaches. Also letting you play as any of 10 specialists that have different features.

It also has the very popular Zombies game mode. Where players online work together to defeat a zombie horde in a round based mode. With the ability to customise your zombies experience through custom mutations, while also giving distinct stories.

As this is a Call of Duty entry, the price would normally be around £60 for this base game. But of course, with PlayStation Plus, you can get it for free until the line-up changes.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds (PS4)

The last of the PS Plus line up for July is WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Letting you play as your favourite wrestlers from the popular WWE franchise.

This game includes a number of different modes for players to enjoy, including a story that lets you unlock new characters, and online tournaments where you go against different players to earn victory.

This game did release in September 2020, but is not the most liked entry. Normally worth £35, it is now available for free for a limited time.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (PS4)

This is not part of July’s PS Plus line up, as it was made free with June’s line up. But it is still available for most of this month. Allowing users to still grab it while they can.

Planet Alpha (Xbox)

Now we move onto the Xbox line up, starting with Planet Alpha. A game taking place on a mysterious alien world full of danger.

You play alone in this giant and visually wonderful world, trying to survive day and night while being hunted by dangerous enemies.

As you explore this world you will put together its story and figure out all of the secrets of this world.

Normally worth around £20 on the Microsoft Store, Xbox Live Gold users can get this game for free this July and play it on Xbox Series X or Xbox One. This will be available for free to Gold members from July 1st to July 31st.

Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break (Xbox)

Next up is the arcade game Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break. A competitive tower defence game that features a story mode and numerous levels which you can play against your friends.

You can even create your own levels that you can play or share with your friends to give them a challenge. There are also numerous game modes that can be played alongside the story and online multiplayer.

And this game is normally worth around £25 if you were to buy it normally on Xbox. This will be available from July 16th to August 15th.

Conker: Live & Reloaded (Original Xbox)

The third game available will be a game that released for the original Xbox back in 2005. Conker: Live & Reloaded is a remake of the 2001 game Conker’s Bad Fur Day that released for Nintendo 64.

But it adds a multiplayer mode that you can enjoy from the third person perspective. Letting you play classic modes like Capture the Flag or Team Deathmatch. Giving you access to different weapons that you can use against online opponents.

This platform action & adventure video game also features a mission-based mode that you can enjoy at your own pace.

And this game is normally worth around £10 to buy digitally on the Microsoft Store. This game is backwards compatible, and can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Available from July 16th to July 31st.

Midway Arcade Origins (Xbox 360)

The final Xbox Gold Free Game for July is the arcade compilation game: Midway Arcade Origins. Another backwards compatible game that released in November 2012 for Xbox 360.

This game is the successor to Midway Arcade Treasures, and includes a collection of small arcade games. With 31 different games being available within Midway Arcade Origins.

And this game is valued at £15 on the Microsoft store and will be available for free from July 16th to 31st.

That concludes all of the PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold free games July 2021, with PS Plus putting out another strong line-up, and Xbox putting out some not well-known games. With PS Plus you will be getting three games worth a combined £140. And with Xbox Live Gold, you will be getting four games worth a combined £70.
