2021’s Potentially Great Games

2021 is upon us, and along with it a great selection of games that have the potential to be extraordinary. We have picked out four games that could potentially release in 2021.

Halo Infinite:

Halo Infinite is rumoured to release in the fall of 2021, and will be the sixth entry into the Halo series (excluding Halo 3 ODST). This game has a lot of potential and looks likely to be one of the biggest games of 2021. Halo Infinite will be an Xbox and Windows exclusive game, sorry PlayStation users. Being officially announced at E3 2018, and having a gameplay reveal earlier this year, Halo Infinite looks to be the next big entry into the legendary Halo collection. But there is still a lot of work to be done, production has been slowed due to Covid-19 and Halo Infinite has already been delayed multiple times so that the game can be produced to the highest possible quality.

There is no need to worry, Halo Infinite is rumoured to have a budget of over $500 million, which would make it the most expensive game ever to be produced. Not only that, but it has been in production for a while, so the quality of Halo Infinite should be great. Halo Infinite is set to be the sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, which released back in 2015. Halo Infinite will be played from the perspective of the Master Chief (or Spartan 117), and is rumoured to take place on one of the Halo rings. As for plot and gameplay, we cannot be sure on what happens or what it will be like until further into 2021. So, until then, sit tight and get ready for any updates.

God of War Ragnarök:

At the end of Sony’s online PS5 Showcase event, it was teased that the next entry of the God of War series would be released in 2021. IMDB leaked that God of War Ragnarök could release around February 5th 2021, but this date is not confirmed and is unlikely to be true based on the lack of official information and Covid-19 delays. God of War Ragnarök (could be changed or different) will be the sequel to 2018’s award winning God of War, which focused on Kratos, the God of War, and his son travelling through the Norse mythology-based location of Midgard, in order to spread the ashes of his wife, while also being hunted by a mysterious foe.

God of War will continue off the ending of God of War 2018, but we are not certain on what the exact plot will be due to lack of information. It is rumoured that God of War Ragnarök will be based around Kratos and his son fighting numerous Norse gods such as Odin and Thor, and we can be sure that there will be a lot of death and brutality. What we can be certain of, however, is that God of War Ragnarök will be a PlayStation exclusive, as all of the previous entries were. With God of War 2018 being so incredibly popular, we can say that the next entry will be very highly anticipated.

Subnautica Below Zero:

Now for a game that doesn’t include much violence. Subnautica: Below Zero is set to be released during early 2021. Numerous people and sources have leaked that Subnautica: Below Zero could release early on in 2021. This game will be eventually be available on all platforms, but rumoured to be released on PC first. Subnautica: Below Zero is an open world survival game based within the freezing and Artic region on the alien planet labelled as “Planet 4546B”. Subnautica: Below Zero will be the sequel to the original Subnautica, which released back in 2018 and was based around a lone survivor of a ship crash on Planet 4546B, who contracted a deadly disease known as the Kharaa, and is attempting to cure it.

Subnautica: Below Zero has been in development for a number of years and has been tested by not only the developers, but also PC users. Subnautica: Below Zero will have numerous new species of animals, wildlife and leviathans which are bound to give you an extraordinary experience. With new characters, technology and an exciting story also to pursue, Subnautica: Below Zero is bound to be an exciting release this year. The story is set to be based around a new protagonist “Robin” searching for her sister “Sam” who apparently died during an Alterra mission in “Sector Zero” on Planet 4546B. Apparently, Unknown Worlds Entertainment changed the plot of Subnautica Below Zero after numerous PC users managed to glitch into inaccessible areas in the test demo and leak the ending to the original plot. This game is set to release on PC first early in 2021, so keep an eye out for any changes.

Horizon Forbidden West:

Back again with another PlayStation exclusive, Horizon Forbidden West. This will be the second entry into the Horizon series, being a sequel to the original Horizon Zero Dawn, which was based around Aloy and her investigation as to what was corrupting the robots in post-apocalyptic Utah, and her own mysterious past.

Horizon Forbidden West will have a number of new locations and enemies to deal with. There are rumours that Horizon Forbidden West will take place within San Francisco based on released images and trailers. It seems that in Horizon Forbidden West you will be taking on an emerging threat called the “Red Blight” by creators Guerrilla Games, a threat that corrupts and infects lifeforms that it interacts with.

Upon that there will be numerous new robotic creatures, such as the “shellsnapper” which is based around a tortoise, and the “trumortusk” which is based around an elephant. There will be much, much more included by the looks of the trailers and early images releases. It is unknown when this game will release exactly, but it looks certain to be during 2021, and should be something to take a look at. There have not been many leaks or rumours as to when Horizon Forbidden West could be released.

Far Cry 6:

Releasing on all platforms is the next entry into the Far Cry series is Far Cry 6. This game, like the previous games, will not serve as a sequel in anyway. It is a complete standalone game with a unique plot. Taking place in the country of Yara, an island in the Caribbean (fictional), during a revolution, the story will focus around taking down a dictator and his son.

Far Cry 6 is bound to have a selection of brand-new locations, weapons and characters to interact with. It has been rumoured that Yara will be “the largest Far Cry playground to date” which will be something to look forward to. Inspired by Cuba and the Cuban Revolution, this game is set to have some interesting and entertaining themes. You will be playing as Dani Rojas, a guerrilla soldier attempting to obtain freedom for his country.

Far Cry 6 was previously set to release on February 18th 2021, but has been postponed due to COVID-19. There have been a few leaks in terms of a release date, with the most likely being between April 2021 and March 2022. A listing on the Dutch site Proxis leaked that the release date could be the 30th April 2021, but this is unconfirmed.
